They love their hockey in Smashville

It’s been quite a while since I’ve been able to go on a multi-city road trip (the last four months have been reserved for helping take care of Little Fan), but it feels good to be back out the road and exploring venues. First up on a three-day, two-city jaunt was Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, home of the NHL’s Predators.

“Smashville” has been on my must-visit list for a long time. Much is made of the NHL having teams in “non-traditional” markets to varying degrees of success, but Nashville certainly is a prime example of how well it can work. The fans are passionate and love their team, which has been a playoff contender for most of the last decade. And the arena is in a prime location, in the heart of downtown next to the famed Honky Tonk Row.

On this night, the home fans definitely went home happy — the Predators spanked the Jets 7-0. As for me, I think I’ll have “I Like It, I Love It” (the Preds’ goal song) stuck in my head for a few days.
