In Southern California, a region with no shortage of top events, BMO Stadium is more than just another venue in a crowded landscape.

Opened in 2018, the facility serves as the home of Los Angeles FC of MLS and Angel City FC of the NWSL. And with both among the most high-profile clubs in their respective leagues, it has helped raise the profile of BMO Stadium among soccer fans.

Though LAFC was the second team in the Los Angeles area to enter MLS, it quickly established a loyal fan base and met with near-immediate success. The club won the MLS Cup championship in 2022, and matches with the crosstown rival LA Galaxy have become highly anticipated sporting events in Southern California, complete with the cheeky nickname “El Tráfico.”

The team has also benefited from the presence of several high-profile players. Mexican star Carlos Vela was the face of the club in its early years, and the current squad features two prominent former Tottenham Hotspur and international players, goalkeeper Hugo Lloris and forward Son Heung-min.

Meanwhile, Angel City came onto the scene in 2022, boasting an ownership group consisting of several high-profile celebrities and athletes. As of 2024, the club held the distinction of being the most valuable women’s sports team in the world.

With a capacity of 22.000, BMO Stadium also is a frequent host of major concerts, as well as other outdoor sports. It’s set to host rugby sevens during the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.

BMO Stadium (pronounced BEE-mo) is named after the Bank of Montreal, which obtained the naming rights to the facility in 2023. It’s not to be confused with BMO Field in Toronto, which houses fellow MLS club Toronto FC.

Getting to BMO Stadium

BMO Stadium is located in Exposition Park, just a couple miles south of downtown Los Angeles and adjacent to the University of Southern California.

Even before the stadium’s construction, the area was already well known to L.A. sports fans thanks to the presence of the historic Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, home to the USC Trojans football team, just next door.

BMO Stadium is well-supported by public transportation, namely L.A.’s Metro rail service. The E line runs along Exposition Boulevard, between the USC campus and Exposition Park. The Expo Park/USC station is the closest stop to BMO Stadium, but still requires a walk of about half a mile through the park.

In addition, the Metro J Line, a dedicated bus route, has a stop along the nearby Interstate 110 freeway at 37th Street, about half a mile away. It’s another option for fans coming from downtown L.A. or the South Bay communities along the 110.

Parking at BMO Stadium

Exposition Park has a handful of lots and structures that offer general parking to support BMO Stadium, the Coliseum and the other facilities contained within.

The most prominent is the multi-level structure known as the Blue Structure, located north of BMO Stadium, adjacent to both the Coliseum and the California Science Center.

Drivers can enter via Figueroa Street at 39th Street to access the Blue Structure. Alternatively, another large lot called the Green Lot is located west of the stadium and can be accessed by turning north onto Hoover Street from Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

Prices for these lots will vary based on the event and demand.

Things to do around BMO Stadium

BMO Stadium is located near a handful of cultural attractions located within Exposition Park. Among them are the California Science Center (home to one of the retired NASA Space Shuttles, Endeavour, as well as an IMAX theater), the California African American Museum, the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County and the Exposition Park Rose Garden.

An additional and highly anticipated attraction, the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, is located on the western edge of Exposition Park along Vermont Avenue and scheduled to open in September 2026.

So if you’re looking for some culture before an event at BMO Stadium, you’re all set. But there are some typical sports fan activities as well.

For that, your best bet is the lawn north of the stadium, which is typically set up with a handful of team-sponsored activities as well as numerous independent food stalls serving items like tacos, churros and juices, and merch tents selling LAFC and Angel City gear.

The ubiquitous bacon-wrapped hot dog carts that can be found outside just about every large-scale event in California, known locally as “Danger Dogs,” are readily available outside BMO Stadium as well.

A food hall known as The Fields LA is also attached to BMO Stadium. Formerly open every day of the week, the venue now operates just on matchdays. Inside, patrons will find a few food stalls as well as a retro-style arcade on the second floor.

Watching a game at BMO Stadium

BMO Stadium is a well-designed facility that manages to feel larger than its 22,000-seat capacity and yet retain a somewhat intimate feel all at the same time.

The second point is sort of a necessity. BMO Stadium was built on the site of the former Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena, which once was the home to the L.A. Clippers as well as USC’s basketball program. While the replacement soccer venue takes up a larger footprint, the stadium designers didn’t have that much space to work with.

As a result, BMO Stadium’s seating bowl features steeper angles than is typical for sports venues. That’s most apparent on the north end, which features standing bleachers and rows separated by handrails.

This section is reserved for LAFC and Angel City supporters (signs in the tunnels leading to the sections state that anyone wearing opposing team gear is forbidden from entering), and the LAFC supporters who cheer from this part of BMO Stadium are collectively known as the “3252,” after the capacity of the section.

A conspicuously large scaffolding of lights also hangs over the north end, as these bleachers pull away to accommodate a stage whenever concerts are held at the stadium.

The facility also boasts seats that are as close as 12 feet from the field. In a handful of premium sections, there is no barrier separating the first row of seats from the pitch, and it’s not uncommon for balls to bounce or even roll into these spectator areas.

A main concourse rings the entirety of the seating bowl, giving patrons access to both the lower-level sections numbered in the 100s, as well as the upper decks (200s) that are on three sides.

Fans should be wary of the upper-deck sections on BMO Stadium’s east side (Sections 208 to 217) if kickoff is in the late afternoon or early evening, as these seats will be directly exposed to the sun as it sets. Not surprisingly, the upper rows in these sections are typically the cheapest for most events.

The sizable LAFC and Angel City team store can be found on the west side of the stadium, through a tunnel that can be somewhat easy to miss if you don’t know where to look.

Food and drink at BMO Stadium

BMO Stadium offers a pretty impressive array of food and drink selections for a venue of its size.

A good starting place to survey your options is on the concourse behind the north end stands, dubbed “The Alley.” Here you’ll find a rotating set of concessions items, often highlighting different ethnic groups around the L.A. area.

Also popular here — especially among the kids — is the soft serve ice cream bowl, which for $15 doesn’t sound special but is really a full-on sundae with chocolate and caramel syrup and two warm chocolate chip cookies.

The Kings Hawaiian stall behind the west stands offers Hawaiian dishes, while a popular taqueria on the southeastern corner sells tacos in sets of threes.

Note that BMO Stadium does not allow patrons to bring in outside food, but does allow two factory-sealed, 20-ounce water bottles per person. The ban on food includes any items purchased from vendors just outside the stadium, so fans must finish any food bought outside before entering.
